A written tour of Scenic Eclipse II

Last month, along with my colleagues Kelly, Rachel, Natalie and Liam, I was lucky enough to step onboard Scenic Eclipse II for the morning while she was docked in London Tilbury. She was the second Discovery Yacht to join the Scenic Ocean Cruises fleet, launching in 2023 as the almost identical sister ship to Scenic Eclipse.

She was much larger than I expected. Having sailed aboard Emerald Sakara last year, I thought I had a good idea of what to expect from a small luxury ship, but Scenic Eclipse II felt like a different proposition altogether. Despite carrying just 228 guests, she packs in an extraordinary amount of space. 

What surprised me most was just how much there was to see. Every time I thought I’d reached the final venue, another restaurant, bar or beautifully designed public space appeared around the corner. The dining options alone were impressive, and by the time I left the ship, I was already thinking about which itinerary I’d like to sail on first. 

While I continue dreaming about that future voyage, I thought it would be useful to take a deck-by-deck look at Scenic Eclipse II, detailing the public spaces and cabins available throughout. 

Public spaces:

• The Discovery Centre is used for destination presentations, lectures and expedition briefings led by Scenic Eclipse II’s Discovery Team. It is also where guests prepare for expedition activities, with facilities for storing polar boots and getting ready for experiences such as kayaking and paddleboarding. 
• The Marina Entrance is the access point for Scenic Eclipse II’s marina and expedition operations. This is where guests embark Zodiacs and tenders for landings and excursions.
• The Marina is one of Scenic Eclipse II’s standout features. Located at sea level, it is the embarkation point for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding experiences and, in suitable conditions, provides direct access to the water for swimming and other marina activities. 
• There is also a Medical Centre and two lifts that scale the height of the ship. 

Public spaces:

• Koko’s is the yacht’s Asian restaurant. The space also houses Sushi @ Koko’s, where guests can enjoy freshly prepared sushi and sashimi, and Night Market @ Koko’s, an intimate dining venue inspired by the street food markets of Asia, India and the Middle East. 
• Elements is Scenic Eclipse II’s main dining restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Located within the restaurant is Chef’s Table @ Elements, an invitation-only dining experience where a small group of guests can enjoy a multi-course dégustation menu.
• The Guest Desk is the place to go for shore excursion enquiries, general assistance and any questions about your voyage. It is located alongside the reception area in the heart of the ship. 
• The Scenic Lounge & Bar is one of the ship’s main social spaces, featuring comfortable seating, regular entertainment and ocean views. At its centre is the Scenic Bar, which houses a floor-to-ceiling whisky display featuring more than 130 whiskies from around the world.
• The Boutique sells a selection of luxury clothing, jewellery, accessories, toiletries and souvenirs. 
• The Theatre hosts destination briefings, lectures, enrichment presentations and evening entertainment throughout the voyage. 
• The Discovery Lounge is a comfortable seating area located close to the reception and theatre, providing another space for guests to relax throughout the day. 

Public spaces:

• Lumière is Scenic Eclipse II’s French speciality restaurant. Open for dinner only, it serves a sophisticated multi-course menu and features the adjacent Lumière Champagne Bar.
• Azure Bar & Café is a casual dining venue serving light bites, snacks, coffees and drinks throughout the day. Located next to Azure is Scenic Épicure, a culinary space used for cooking demonstrations, tasting and food and wine experiences. 
• Forward on Deck 5 is the Observation Lounge & Library, which features comfortable seating and a selection of books and the Observation Terrace offers panoramic views from the front of the yacht. 

Cabins: 

• There are four category D Verandah Suites, six category DA Deluxe Verandah Suites, 8 category DB Deluxe Verandah Suites and 14 category DD Grand Deluxe Verandah Suites. 

Public spaces: 

• Senses Spa is home to treatment rooms offering a range of massages and beauty treatments, a hair and beauty salon, a gym, a yoga and Pilates studio, infrared saunas, steam rooms and relaxation areas. 
• The Spa Vitality Pool is located within Senses Spa and features a temperature-controlled plunge pool surrounded by comfortable seating. 
• There is also a Self-Service Guest Laundry, which is available for guests to use throughout their voyage. 

Cabins: 

• There are four category C Verandah Suites, 18 category CA Deluxe Verandah Suites, six category CD Grand Deluxe Verandah Suites and two category GP Grand Panorama Suites. 

Public spaces:

• The Yacht Club is a casual dining venue serving breakfast and lunch. It features indoor seating, a buffet area and food stations offering a variety of hot and cold dishes. Adjacent to the restaurant is the Yacht Club Outdoor Dining area, which provides alfresco seating with ocean views.
• The Yoga & Pilates Room hosts a programme of wellness classes and boasts a dedicated space for stretching, yoga and Pilates sessions.
• The Gym & Fitness Area is equipped with a range of cardio and strength-training equipment.

Cabins:

• There are four category DA Verandah Suites, 16 category CD Deluxe Verandah Suites and two category GP Grand Deluxe Verandah Suites. 

Public spaces:

• The Helicopter Hangars house Scenic Eclipse II’s two onboard helicopters, which are used for optional flightseeing experiences in selected destinations. When not in use, the aircraft are stored and maintained here. 
• Aft on Deck 8 is the Helipad, which is the launch and landing area for the yacht’s helicopters. 

Cabins:

• There are four category A Verandah Suites, eight category AA Deluxe Verandah Suites, two category AD Grand Deluxe Verandah Suites, four category S Spa Suites and two category P Panorama Suites. 

Cabins:

• There are two category AA Spa Suites, six category AD Spa Suites and two category OP Owner’s Penthouse Suites. 

Public spaces:

• The Sky Bar offers a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks and is surrounded by comfortable outdoor seating. Positioned at the top of the yacht, it offers excellent views and is a popular spot to relax throughout the day. 
• Sky Deck Vitality Pool is an outdoor plunge pool located on the top deck. It is surrounded by sun loungers and seating.
• The Cabanas provide shaded outdoor seating areas where guests can relax, read a book or enjoy a drink while taking in the views.
